Atlantic City Chalk Art Festival

Quiet ocean, a brilliant blue sky and inviting temperatures made a visit to the Atlantic City, NJ Chalk Art Festival well worth the trip to the shore.  Thirteen artists from around the world brought their creativity to Indiana Avenue off the Boardwalk.  Here the artists created a type of art called anamorphic projection.  The works are meant to be viewed through a camera or viewfinder so a 3D effect is achieved.  It certainly was intriguing to view the art as it appeared to be "popping up" out of the street. Although some of the artists had not yet completed their project, it was rewarding talking to some of the artists, since they were very willing to answer questions or accept compliments from a fascinated audience.

The show was sponsored by the Atlantic City Alliance.  It was another home run for Atlantic City.

Paint and chalk were waiting for the challenge.

The following photo shows the completed work.

This friendly gentleman was very willing to take part in the pose.

A  beautiful work in progress.

A very fitting tribute to Atlantic City, birthplace of the world famous Monopoly Game.

Everyone hoped the blue skies would prevail, since one rainstorm could quickly take away a week of dedicated work.

May the sun continue to shine!

Miss America / Show Us Your Shoes Parade

After an eight year hiatus the Miss America Parade returned to its home -- the Boardwalk in Atlantic City New Jersey.  It proved to be a beautiful late afternoon when the 53 contestants, vintage convertible vehicles, dancers, magnificent marching bands and floats made their way down the boards.  It was estimated a crowd of 225,000 spectators attended the spectacular event.  More than 100 groups were registered to participate and every group presented a well organized performance. Without a doubt it was a great show!

The beautiful sand sculpture paid tribute to the glory of the Miss America crown.  In1921 King Neptune headed the procession after coming ashore by ocean barge.

The first float let the crowd know it was the Show Us Your Shoe Parade.

It was very nice seeing former Miss Americas.  Their lives have been greatly motivated by their  once in a life time achievement.

These young men and women certainly can be proud of their performance.  Also, their band directors must be very proud of what they have achieved.

Miss New York yesterday, Miss America today.  Congratulations Nina Davuluri.  May you have a successful year and may you enjoy your journey.
