And They're Off

It was a considerably warm summer day, but it did not deter my family visiting from Canada, my dear friend Pat, and my son to venture to  Delaware with the intention to visit the Delaware Park Casino and Race Track.    It has been a number of years since I last experienced watching horse racing, and I found it to be quite thrilling.

The once active Atlantic City Race Track for many years entertained visitors with the delight of watching and betting on a sure to win thoroughbred.  Unfortunately, the track was permanently closed on January 16th, 2015. The grandstand is still visible, the memories of a once thriving adventure remain, but time brings change and sadly the track  fell victim to the changing times.

The grounds and track were clean and well maintained.  Just looking at the view was rewarding.

There wasn't many people watching from the stands, but inside there was a room filled with the betters.  With pencil in hand and intense facial expression all were focused on a sure and hopeful winner.

The race consisted of seven beautiful horses and jockeys in brilliant colors.

And the favorite to win did just that.

After each race the horses were gently spayed with cool water.  As I previously stated it was a hot day and I too would have welcomed a cool spray.

Preparing the track took place after each race. Number 6 (Sophia's Night) was the winner, but since she was a favorite to winner the odds were not great.  My niece bet $2.00 and her win was $3.00.       Not bad for a first timer!!
