And They're Off

It was a considerably warm summer day, but it did not deter my family visiting from Canada, my dear friend Pat, and my son to venture to  Delaware with the intention to visit the Delaware Park Casino and Race Track.    It has been a number of years since I last experienced watching horse racing, and I found it to be quite thrilling.

The once active Atlantic City Race Track for many years entertained visitors with the delight of watching and betting on a sure to win thoroughbred.  Unfortunately, the track was permanently closed on January 16th, 2015. The grandstand is still visible, the memories of a once thriving adventure remain, but time brings change and sadly the track  fell victim to the changing times.

The grounds and track were clean and well maintained.  Just looking at the view was rewarding.

There wasn't many people watching from the stands, but inside there was a room filled with the betters.  With pencil in hand and intense facial expression all were focused on a sure and hopeful winner.

The race consisted of seven beautiful horses and jockeys in brilliant colors.

And the favorite to win did just that.

After each race the horses were gently spayed with cool water.  As I previously stated it was a hot day and I too would have welcomed a cool spray.

Preparing the track took place after each race. Number 6 (Sophia's Night) was the winner, but since she was a favorite to winner the odds were not great.  My niece bet $2.00 and her win was $3.00.       Not bad for a first timer!!

Ocean City, New Jersey

Make way for summer.  The Ocean City Boardwalk has suddenly taken off for a new season that will make the thousands of tourists one again glad they came to visit the Boardwalk.

Ocean City, New Jersey has been named one of the top family vacation spots.

The beach stretches for eight miles with beautiful clean white sand and a wonderful rolling surf.

On the boardwalk you can find affordable shops, restaurants,  and many activities for the young and young at heart.

The many amusement rides, and miniature golf provide endless entertainment.

It was especially delightful watching the happy faces of children.  The screams were loud as they whirled  and twirled on the rides of up and down or round and round.

It was fun watching the crafters making fudge and salt water taffy.  A sample of salt water taffy was difficult to choose since there were so many flavors.

This certainly looks like the catch of the day.  Fishing and boating offer many individuals this popular sport.

An evening stroll on the boardwalk is entertaining, just taking a break and watching people enjoying themselves makes you feel your in the right place at the right time.

From racing cars to bumper cars, just getting behind a wheel makes happy smiles.

Since it was evening many rides were waiting for the children.

During the summer a String Band from Philadelphia parades the boardwalk.

The wonderful smell of popcorn, hot dogs and other delicious foods filled the air adding to the smell of the shore.

Salt water taffy could be purchased in so many different flavors.

This miniature golf course like so many others was an attraction for children and adults.

I know I can.  I know I can.  And I can do it because I am on tippy toe.

Darkness had arrived and the boardwalk suddenly became alive after a sleepy summer day.

2015 Philadelphia Flower Show

Cell phones were flashing, cameras were clicking as people viewed the events and features at the 2015 Philadelphia Flower Show.

This year's theme was "Celebrate the Movies."  The exhibits included movie themes and décor that were inspired by the movies of Disney and Disney-Pixar.

Upon entering the entrance garden there was an Art Deco theater facade made with an arrangement of bright flowers.  There were exhibitors from around the world each offering a magnificent display of plants and flowers.

                         The Butterfly Room

"The Butterfly Experience" consisted of more than 1,000 butterflies created by California's Sky River Butterflies.  Both adults and children were fascinated by the assortment of domestic and exotic species.

Gene London brought 55 of his fabulous costumes to the Show.  On exhibit were Golden Age costumes from Stars of yesteryear.  Mr. London is an expert on Hollywood costumes and owns thousands and thousands of them from the glamorous golden days of Tinseltown.
