An NCL Breakaway Cruise turned out to be the winter get away my friend Pat and I needed. Cruising to the southern Caribbean on the ship Breakaway was an enjoyable experience. My sons drove us to New York where we boarded the Norwegian Breakaway. The ship was built in 2013, it accommodates 3963 quests and a crew of 1657.
Our itinerary took us to the following ports : Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, Tortola, St. Lucia, Barbados, and St. Kitts. It was delightful having relaxing days at sea, viewing many shades of turquoise water, gentle ocean breezes and beautiful ocean views.

SAN JUAN PUERTO RICO
After two days at sea we docked at our first island visit. We took a guided tour of San Juan where we visited a fortification built by the Spaniards. We then ventured to the New City where we stopped at a beautiful beach and the Capital Building for pictures.
ST. THOMAS
Day 4 In St. Thomas we boarded an open air safari bus. Traveling along Skyline Drive we were able to view neighboring islands and Megan's Bay - one of the top beaches in the world. We continued to St. Peter's Great House and Botanical Gardens.
Tortola, British Virgin Islands
Day 5 Our excursion had us traveling along the coastline on the Sir Francis Drakes Highway. We stopped at Pussers Landing where we shopped in quaint boutiques. Our next destination was a beach with crystal clear water, many tourists took the opportunity to take the plunge.
St. Lucia, British Virgin Islands
Day 6 Driving through the capital and listening to stories of how the British defended the Island against the French was very informative. Continuing on our journey we passed banana plantations while on our way to the village of Ansela Raye a typical fishing village.
Barbados
After several days of visiting islands we chose a tour to take in the Islands highlights. As we drove across the Island we passed peaceful villages eventually reaching St. John's Church and then on to experiencing the Concorde.
BASSETEREE, ST. KITTS
Day 8 St. Kitts Scenic Railway is considered one of the most interesting train rides in the world. The rail tour runs in a complete circle around the island. The narrow gauge railroad was built nearly a century ago to deliver sugar cane from the fields to the mills in the capital city of Basseteree.
