St. Patricks's Day Parade

The Atlantic City, NJ 29th annual St Patrick's Day Parade was held on the famous Atlantic City boardwalk on Saturday,  March 15, 2014.  It certainly was a joyful celebration with great weather adding to the festivities.  Temperatures were in the 50's with blue skies, sun, and a gentle sea breeze.  Such a day was appreciated after the harsh winter NJ had this year.  The parade began promptly at 1 p.m. and it brought cheers, applause, and welcome smiles from the viewers along the parade route.  People from all walks of life took part in this Irish celebration and a great time was had by all.   This observation was easy to determine since smiles were everywhere.

It was very rewarding seeing different units in dress uniforms.  The Atlantic City Fire Department gave an inspiring march.

The bagpipe brigade could be heard in the distance and when they reached our location they were wonderful.

Some youths danced on the boardwalk while others danced on decorated floats.  There is nothing like the Irish jig.

The floats were a great addition to the parade.  The wearing of the green and special characters were fun to watch.

These ladies were tossing candy and beads to the crowd, both children and adults had hands outstretched for a little bit of Irish "freebies."

This little devilish leprechaun could not be caught, so he did not have to relinquish where his pot of gold is hidden.

Our canine friend is not an Irish Setter, but with his green attire he made an outstanding appearance.

Then there were the people --- strangers, visitors, some with Irish heritage and some with none.  Everyone was friendly, willing to converse and enjoy the day.

This gentleman was willing to have his picture taken with my friend.  Perhaps we will never meet him again, but he will always be remembered for his kindness.

What a great day seeing folks of all ages willing to be part of a happy time.

I rather feel confident when the parade reached this gentleman, he too had a happy smile.

Needless to say I went home with three plastic Irish bracelets (I'll never wear), a shamrock scarf , several strands of emerald green beads, and a pocket full of candy. It was a great day !!!!
